Yes, it is necessary to have a valid passport to enter Costa Rica. top

You do not need a visa if you have a U.S. passport. You will receive a tourist visa that is valid for 90 days. top

To drive in Costa Rica, you will need a valid driver's license from your country and a valid Passport. top

Yes Costa Rica has a high grade water system and the water is potable throughout the country. Drinking from the tap will not cause any harm. top

The Costa Rican currency is the Colón. Coins are in values of 5,10, 20,50,100, and 500, and bills are in values of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000. top

Are credit cards accepted in Costa Rica?
In most places, credit cards are accepted but there is no guarantee. You may find a handful of places that do not accept credit. It is wise to have cash in either Costa Rican Colones or US dollars, as the majority of places accept US dollars. top

If you decide to stay longer than planned you should apply for a visa or you can leave the country for 72 hours and you will get another tourist visa for 90 days. top

What should I bring when going to the rain forest?
Before going into the rainforests, you will want to bring a rain poncho, hiking shoes, insect repellent and lots of film and spare batteries for your camera. top
