1. Will I need a Passport to travel to Costa Rica?

   Yes, it is necessary to have a valid passport to enter Costa Rica. top

2. Will I need a Visa to go to Costa Rica?

   You do not need a visa if you have a U.S. passport. You will receive a tourist visa that is valid for 90 days. top

3. Can I travel to Costa Rica with a one way ticket?

   No, Costa Rica does not allow entrance to the country without a return ticket. top

4. What do I need to be able to drive in Costa Rica?

   To drive in Costa Rica, you will need a valid driver's license from your country and a valid Passport. top

5. Is the water drinkable in Costa Rica?

   Yes Costa Rica has a high grade water system and the water is potable throughout the country. Drinking from the tap will not cause any harm. top

6. What is the currency in Costa Rica?

   The Costa Rican currency is the Colón. Coins are in values of 5,10, 20,50,100, and 500, and bills are in values of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000. top

7. Are credit cards accepted in Costa Rica?

   In most places, credit cards are accepted but there is no guarantee. You may find a handful of places that do not accept credit. It is wise to have cash in either Costa Rican Colones or US dollars, as the majority of places accept US dollars. top

8. What kind of inoculations do I need before entering Costa Rica?

   You will not need any inoculations in order to enter Costa Rica. top

9. Do I need an adapter for electronics, such as a laptop?

   Adapters for electrical devices are not necessary in Costa Rica - the electrical sockets use the same voltage and plugs as in the U.S. top

    The departure tax from Costa Rica is $26 top

    Yes, the national parks in Costa Rica have wheelchair access. top

    Most of the destinations that we work with are accessible for individuals with disabilities; however, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make the necessary arrangements. top

13. If I decide to stay longer, can I get a visa while I am there?

    If you decide to stay longer than planned you should apply for a visa or you can leave the country for 72 hours and you will get another tourist visa for 90 days. top

14. What should I bring when going to the rain forest?

    Before going into the rainforests, you will want to bring a rain poncho, hiking shoes, insect repellent and lots of film and spare batteries for your camera. top

15. Are there domestic airlines that travel within the country?

    Yes, there are 2 local companies that fly throughout Costa Rica: Sansa and Nature Air. top

16. What is the sales tax in Costa Rica?

    The sales tax in Costa Rica is 13% top

17. What number should I dial in case of emergency?

    In case of emergency you can dial 911 just like in the U.S. top

    Costa Rica is a democratic country that is divided into 7 regions Guanacaste, Alajuela, Puntarenas, Heredia, Cartago, Limon, and San Jose, with San Jose being the capital city. top
