Costa Ricans refer to themselves as Tico (masculine) or Tica (feminine). This comes from a local variation of the diminutive suffixes that occur in the Spanish language. Pequenito becomes pequenico in Costa Rica.

"Pura Vida" meaning "Pure Life" is the motto of Costa Ricans. Appreciating life the most natural way, be it surrounded by friends, family or natural beauty.
